Let's keep this in mind before we begin! We're going to learn English Grammar (and lots of it), but it's NOT going to be boring. It's going to be fun. So, let's start.
Sentence Structures
The basic sentence in English has the following structure. More words are added to this structure as the sentences become longer and provide more information.
Subject + Verb + Object
e.g. I am typing a lesson.
You are reading a blog.
The children are playing a game.
Q. What do we notice about these sentences?
A. They mention an action that's in progress.
Q. Suppose we have to speak about an action that happens every day? How do we frame the sentence?
A. We do it using the present indefinite tense.
e.g I read a page every day.
You study English daily.
We learn a new lesson every day.
They teach Maths every morning.
But He reads a page every day .
She studies for an hour daily.
The cat mews when it's hungry.
Q. What do we observe in these sentences?
A. When we speak about 'I', 'you' 'we', 'they' we do not add an 's' to the verb. But when we speak about 'he', 'she, 'it' we add an 's' to the verb
Let's do some more sentences in the present indefinite tense. You can fill in the blanks and check your answers. The verb to be used is given in the brackets.
1. My son _____ (go) to school regularly.
2. I _______ (prefer) sleeping to gossiping.
3. Most people _______ (like) to laugh at others, but not at themselves!
4. My friends ________ (tell) me interesting stories.

7. We ________ (meet) every evening to discuss our plans for the next day.
8. Alina __________ (paint) beautifully.

We focussed on the present indefinite tense in this lesson. There are other tenses that we use in order to communicate correctly. We shall be studying those as we proceed.
